How can Therapy Help me Stop Struggling?

Therapy will help you learn skills to decrease anxiety and fight depression.   You don’t have to keep struggling.

Life has been difficult lately. Your sleep is poor, you wake up worrying.  Every day brings another challenge, you’re always on edge. You never really feel comfortable, so you avoid rather than face activities that make you nervous. Always feel restless wondering what’s next. You try to get through another day — but anxiety is wearing you down.

Perhaps you’ve been feeling sad, or maybe just numb? Your energy is low, and activities that used to be fun now seem boring. Don’t really want to do anything. Bad habits have become your coping skills. You get more irritable, you beat yourself up, nothing goes your way.  You try to push through depression on your own, but everything just seems too hard. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy offers strategies to help you make real changes and feel better!

The Weight Of Everything

There’s so much to manage — work, family, bills, the endless stream of bad news. Sometimes it feels like the world is going by and you are just muddling through. Responsible for everyone else, and no time for yourself. Everything piles up. Life is overwhelming.

The demands of family are constant – it feels like you are running a small business. So much to keep track of and not enough fun. You spend your time managing everything, and it is never-ending.

When you ignore your own needs long enough, the stress and exhaustion start showing up as depression, anxiety, and sometimes health problems. Taking time to focus on your mental health is an important step. Individual therapy isn’t being selfish, it’s prioritizing self-care.

When The World Feels Like Too Much

Work is relentless; you respond to emails before going to sleep. Insomnia becomes an issue. You know exercise would help, but you’re too tired. The world is full of bad news.  House projects, car repairs, more money. Try to talk to a friend, but they just talk about their problems. It’d be nice if there were someone who is just there to listen to you.

When emotional problems pile up, many people retreat. Depression and anxiety lead to more isolation, and before long, you can feel disconnected. You get overwhelmed, motivation fades, and there’s no joy anymore.

Life doesn’t have to be like this! Individual counseling can help you find your way back to living with confidence and finding fulfillment.

Trying to Cope — And Still Struggling

You can attempt to avoid difficult emotions by distracting. Work more, stay busy, watch shows late into the night, try not to think about anything.  Scroll on the phone, or have a few drinks to unwind and forget. Just “getting through the day” isn’t really cutting it anymore.

Avoiding difficult issues can help temporarily, but things pile up.  Headaches, stomach problems, worries about health increase. Sleep is never very good. You start procrastinating tasks you know you need to take care of. Counseling can help you face difficulties, instead of just avoiding.

That’s where individual psychotherapy comes in.  It’s not about weakness — it’s about finally making changes and getting stronger. It’s ok to ask for help. You don’t need to struggle by yourself.

About My Approach

I practice a form of individual therapy called Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), which is an evidence-based treatment that helps people identify and change unhelpful thought patterns. CBT teaches practical tools for understanding how your thoughts, feelings, and actions affect one another — and how to change these patterns to improve mood and positive behaviors.

This isn’t just talking about problems or complaining about your Mom.  Personal counseling using CBT is about learning new ways to think, behave, and feel better. Over time, you’ll notice that stress is manageable, decisions become easier, and you start to enjoy your life again.

You May Have Questions About Individual Therapy

I'm nervous, I've never been to Individual Counseling.

That’s completely normal! Once you get started, it gets easier.  We will start with an initial session where I will gather information, and you can ask questions.  I have years of training and will guide you through.  You talk about as much as you feel comfortable with. After 2 or 3 sessions, most people are not nervous. Also, counseling involves something called “Confidentiality”. Our discussions are private.  I can’t talk about our sessions, or let anyone know you are talking with me.

What if you want me to change things that I don't want to change?

We will create your goals for individual therapy together and focus on what is most important to you.  I will suggest ideas about how you can improve your mood, heal from the past, or increase healthy behaviors today – but you decide where you want to focus your efforts.

Am I going to talk to you once a week forever?

While the length of therapy depends on the client and the goals of treatment, but most people don’t need long-term therapy. Most people make more progress if we meet weekly to start with. Sessions can decrease in frequency once things are improving.  We will regularly review progress and adjust strategies as needed – and discontinue therapy once you feel you are doing well.  You decide when your individual mental health therapy is over.  My goal is to help you feel better.

It’s Time To Take Care Of You

Mental health will get worse if you ignore it for too long. You can’t take care of anyone else if you are suffering. You deserve space to talk, to think, and to heal. Individual therapy is a place to breathe — a chance to sort through what’s really happening and regain control over your life.

Talk therapy can help you sort things out more quickly than just thinking to yourself or reading a self-help book. Find peace of mind, renewed energy, and the ability to resolve old issues. Feel like yourself again. You don’t have to stay stuck. Individual therapy is an effective way to make positive changes.
